Well, it`s been all over town maybe, but now it`s official:
ART OF FEAR disband
Our farewell concert takes place on the 27th February at the Miami-Bar in Koblach. We`ll play slightly longer than usually to provide insight into our quite big back-catalogue. As a novelty (for us) we announce the setlist in advance (see below).
And of course, we abandon the stage in an appropriate way with a brandnew EP entitled “Powertrip” which we will present at this last show. We`ve recorded the four songs at the Dreamscape Studios in Munich together with Jan Vacik and we believe that the CD is well worth hearing.
Special thanks go out to families who always supported us. Most of all Joe´s parents, who allowed us to use their basement as a rehearsal room for many years – without any noiseprotection, what most people rather would have taken as a torture. We also want to thank all our friends, fans and bands who accompanied us on our long journey. Representatively we want to mention here Heinz Konzett, Edgar Rauch and Hans-Peter Schär.
Why do we disband? Well, this simple question might be a bit complicated to answer, but I´ll give it a try – with no guarantee of completeness or without any special order:
To start with, I have to mention our founding year: 1991
Correct, Thomas, Joe and I have been playing together since 1991 without interruption. These are more than 17 years, for me more than half of my life. These 17 years formed us, we grew together and our interaction had a strong influence on each other. From 2001 onwards our singers, Cassy and Daniel also brought in their part. During this time, we simply had fun playing together, whether live or in the rehearsal room it didn`t make much of a difference. Well, we`ve all become older, and some time ago (something between three years and two month) the fun became routine and routine became duty.
Then it`s time to stop.
Moreover we had the feeling to move in circles. We have released six self-produced CDs which to some extent were well acclaimed. And of course we`ve always had one goal: To get a record deal with a good label that would bring our music to the market. The big break through? No, for that we were realistic enough. We would have been satisfied in releasing an album every one or two years without investing too much of our own money. And maybe a small tour every once in a while. That`s what we wanted. But we got only empty promises from some labels and other hypocrits. If I consider what sort of crap, if you allow me, is released and sold these days, I audaciously and perhaps arrogantly say, that we simply were not lucky enough and/or did not have the right connections. However, with some pride I can truly say, that we never went with the flow. At any time we have played our own sound: Old school somewhere between Thrash and Power Metal, (maybe) with some progressive influences. But one fine day, even we, some really persevering guys, had to accept that it won`t work out or that it`s not enough.
Then it`s time to stop.
Also, we had some important and happy changes in personal circumstances: Joe became a father for the second and third time on the 27th October 2008. As twins ask for doubled attention, and the first born doughter her piece of the cake, Joe will dedicate his time completely to his family.
We have thought for a long time whether we should look for a new drummer. But it was mainly me who made this dependent on the success of the current EP. If we`d find some supporting label it would be worth the effort. Already during my studies I had to face some difficult situations according to band-life, and it`s been about 8 years now that I have settled in Innsbruck. Usually I drove once a week the 156km to Feldkirch and back for rehearsals and concerts. So, for me the motivation to play in ART OF FEAR with someone else than Joe was not too high. Thomas and Daniel understood that, and after all the labels again didn`t want our new material, hence we thought:
Then it`s time to stop.
But we will not disappear completely. Thomas is currently trying to set up a “new” band, Daniel is still busy with Greystar whereas I am already rumbling the deep parts for Siegfried in Innsbruck.
For sure we shall meet from time to time, for a drink or two….
“To explore the underground
To find new music and hear old bands
To boldly play and hear what our hearts are beating for:
Heavy Metal!”
ART OF FEAR wish to say good bye!
Thank you all for a really good time!
