WRF (weather research-forecast) model
It is the latest numerical program model by the National Weather Service.
WRF is a mesoscale
model that is used for research purpose and for operational purpose ("Nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model"
or NMM). Versions of the NMM run at
various national weather service offices, universities in the United States,
private meteorological organisations
and MeteoBlue .
Each
day I run WRF v3
under Fedora 10 64-bit (quad core CPU) for Austria.
Keep it running
if you like it. I am the only amateur in Austria with such a service and
it is expandable. Minimum running costs (computer hardware and power consumption)
are 1000 Euro for 3 years. Faster and more computers mean higher model resolution
and longer forecasts.
