For topical reasons: In these times emotions and especially the attempt to live them seem to be a harm to all the frustrated people out there. It's better to hide yourself behind cynicism and other little strategies to avoid getting in touch with the human side of the others.

This is surely not true for Birgit! It's hard to find such a beautiful soul and mind in these days, so I call myself a lucky man :-). Birgit is not the kind of woman who likes herself being opened up to the world, so there is no further information at this point...
